Defining where durable plastics can contribute positively to sustainability outcomes

Founding members:

The Durable Plastics Coalition was established in 2025 to:

  • Encourage open dialogue with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, peers, and academics

  • Support greater understanding about materials choice in product lifecycles, from design to manufacturing to end-of-life

  • Demonstrate use cases for why durable plastic can, in some cases, be the optimal solution from an environmental perspective - such as carbon emissions, safety or longevity.

Our member pledge

“As a group of businesses, we share a powerful sense of responsibility to consider environmental and social impacts in everything we do. We have come together to raise awareness of the importance of distinguishing durable plastics from short-lived applications of plastics, and to highlight that in many cases it can be the most sustainable material choice when full life-cycle impact is considered. Our aim is to foster a regulatory environment where durable plastics can contribute positively to sustainability outcomes.

We pledge to work openly and constructively with those who share our commitment – from policymakers to industry peers, NGOs and academia – to identify the challenges in achieving a sustainable future for durable plastics and to collaborate on practical ways to overcome them.”
